The world's first grid-scale gravity energy storage system, EVx, has entered the first phase of testing, according to recent reports. Developed by a clean energy technology company, the system aims to address the instability and intermittency issues of renewable energy generation, providing a stable and reliable storage solution for the power grid.
The EVx gravity energy storage system utilizes innovative technology to convert excess electricity into potential energy and release it when needed. It consists of a 100-meter storage tower and a set of gravity blocks. When there is surplus electricity supply, the power is used to lift the gravity blocks to the top of the storage tower, converting the excess electricity into gravitational potential energy. When there is a peak in electricity demand, the storage tower releases the gravity blocks, driving a generator through gravity to meet the grid's needs.
Currently, the EVx gravity energy storage system has entered the first phase of testing and is expected to be officially put into use in the next few years. Experts are optimistic about the system's development prospects and look forward to its significant contributions to global energy transition and sustainable development.
